How
To Distinguish Different Types of Asian
Furniture
Chinese
furniture can be distinguished right away
by it's simple design, solid colors and
sturdy construction from the finest quality
wood and metal. The round brass door closure
with brass pin is classic Chinese style.
Much of the furniture was created for the
social elite and prosperous classes of China
and is highly refined in style. During the
Cultural Revolution in China, many pieces
of furniture were passed on from the elite
to the peasant classes. These pieces were
worn down by neglect and by the need to
keep the furniture outside due to limited
space in their homes. Our Chinese furniture
ranges from pieces kept in pristine condition
to charming, rustic pieces weathered by
time. Towards the outer regions in China,
one can see the influences of neighboring
countries reflected in the furniture design,
but the classic Chinese style always shines
through.

A combination of Burmese
craftsmanship and Victorian influence.
This Is typical Burmese
woodcarving in teak wood, which can
withstand the elements.
British
Colonial and Victorian Campaign Furniture
can be found in our BURMA
section. Colonial furniture was made by
Burmese craftsman for British families and
is often simple in function and design with
a Burmese flare. Campaign or "knock
down" furniture was created for officers
to use during their travels across foreign
lands. This furniture was mostly made from
teak. Its dense nature creates an extremely
weather resistant wood perfect for outdoor
and indoor furniture. The Burmese embraced
new designs from the British Victorian era
and incorporated them with their traditionally
ornate woodwork. Typical Burmese
crafts are very ornate and the Burmese are
known for their woodworking abilities. Houses,
statues, and furniture were all adorned
this way.
Tibetan
furniture is typically low to the ground.
Much of Tibetan furniture is crafted by
monks and artisans. Tibetan culture is mainly
Buddhist, a religion rich in symbolism,
which can be seen reflected in their crafts.
A typical Tibetan piece would be a table
of study, hand made and low to the ground,
painted brightly in the colors of their
flags, and designed with animals and flowers
which are deeply rooted in Buddhism.

GREEN
LINE FURNITURE is the latest from Clipper
Trading Company, which you can see here
or at woodartandfurniture.com.
This new and exotic line of wood art and
reclaimed
wood furniture is most unusual
in today's market. Our "Eco-friendly" furniture
consists of root wood benches and chairs,
rosewood tables, ebony consoles, tamarind
coffee tables, teak desk chairs and stools,
root lamps, and more. Each piece is consciously
made into naturally sculpted compositions.
Hand- crafted from giant tree roots or tree
trunks, the wood used in this line of furniture
is what remains from forest maintenance
projects developed years ago and felled
trees from Thailand and other Southeast
Asian countries. Every piece of wood possesses
its own natural artistry and no two pieces
are ever the same.
