At the time of King Asohke of India
about 2000 years ago, the first
Buddhas were commanded to be made.
who converted to Buddhism and

religion. At this time, the look
was established to have the now
antique Buddha images of that
era figured with the hair bunned
on top of the head with a draping
robe. Antique Buddhas were created
in this style to emphasize the
move to his chosen religion.
Changes occurred as the styles
of the Antique Buddhas of the
time evolved showing the Buddhas
with small, swirl-type curls,
the bottom of the ears lobbed
down to the collarbone and larger,
beak-like nose. This is more characteristic
of antique Buddhas of a Thailand
origin.

should have some wear but no real
obvious damage.
Buddhas have been made in various
materials consisting of wood,
paper mache, bronze, stone, precious

show different styles of statues
- heavy, thin, standing, lying
down.
