Antique Palanquin

This ceremonial burial transport was used specifically for carrying high-ranking monks on their final journey. The figures on each end are Naga heads (mythological water snakes). The piece is carved from teak wood, finished with gold paint, and adorned with green and mirrored spangles. The cover was replaced after each use. This one of a kind piece, believed to date back to Mandalay times (1752 - 1885), was recovered from a temple in Burma.
